In the last 24 hours, 493 COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths have been confirmed in South Africa.

Since the outbreak, there have been 101 895 fatalities and 3 998 466 laboratory-confirmed cases, according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD).

Data indicates that Gauteng is still the hardest-hit province, with 192 cases reported there, 34 of which are thought to be potential reinfections.

Additionally, 92 illnesses were reported in the Western Cape, 69 in KwaZulu-Natal, and 57 in the Eastern Cape, while the remaining provinces each saw fewer than 30 infections.

The NICD said that 16 more hospital admissions had occurred in the last 24 hours and that 1 123 patients are currently being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals across the nation.

The data is based on 25 839 392 tests that were carried out in both the public and private sectors.

The Department of Health reports that South Africa has given out 36 979 793 COVID-19 vaccinations, of which 15 007 were given on Tuesday.
