Somizi Mhlongo runs out of woo-shems as “Idols SA” contestants sing into the Top 6

The Top 6 contenders for the 18th season of “Idols South Africa” were chosen after a night of musical bliss.

Every Sunday, each candidate performs two songs that they hope would capture the hearts of Mzansi and garner votes from viewers.

Sunday evening at the Heartfelt Arena in Tshwane marked the conclusion of Kabelo’s trip.

Audiences on #IdolsSA had to say goodbye to Kabelo last night, but farewells are difficult, so we’re prolonging that a bit by presenting his dress rehearsal performances from yesterday. Click each individual image to view it.

The remaining participants revealed their true selves by singing songs that inspired them, followed by collaborations with MTN Joyous Celebration following last week’s traumatic program.

With nearly 8.5 million audience votes this week, Mpilo, Noxolo, Nozi, Thapelo, Ty Loner, and Zee occupy the top six spots.

Chris Eubank, a British boxing legend, attended the event as a guest.

Zee opened the show by performing “Hurt” by Christina Aguilera, followed by “Uzuliphathe Kahle” by Joyous Celebration.

Somizi Mhlongo commented after the first performance, “You were faultless.” Your bottom register is ridiculous; you sounded mature and confident.”

Thembi Seete concurred, stating, “You can do any song right now; the second performance revitalized us.”

JR Bogopa also praised the 18-year-old, stating, “You’re in your element. You are becoming the artist that you aspire to be.”

Noxolo nailed all the right chords with “We Were Here” by Simi and “My Help” by Joyous.

Seete stated, “What I respect most about you is your strong connection to gospel.”

Seete said that the music made her feel as if she were in a chapel.

Mhlongo advised, “I want you to do something that would make you unforgettable. The only thing that will prevent you from winning is our memory of Noxolo, since we only remember you when you’re standing in front of us.”

After the concert, Noxolo told IOL Entertainment, “First and foremost, I’m extremely grateful to my followers for their love and support.

“To have reached this point in the competition is a blessing. I’m one of the most reserved competitors; this is all new to me, but I’m trying so hard not to lose myself in it all.

“I feel my originality is the reason I’ve gotten this far.”

The first song performed by Ty Loner was Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You,” followed by Joyful Celebration’s “Who Am I?”

Bogopa gave constructive criticism: “We’ve seen you gain a lot of popularity throughout the weeks, but your performances this week have grown a bit gimmicky. I’m not purchasing what you’re selling because I don’t believe it to be genuine.”

Mhlongo concurred: “Do you have star potential?” 100%. Have you charisma? 100%. Do you possess the necessary skills to sell records? 150%. However, from now on, you must practice your vocals.”

Ty stated, “I feel on top of the world for having reached this point. It’s insane that we went from thousands of auditions to only six, of which I am one.

“I owe God and those who believe in me all the credit for making this journey worthwhile. I am extremely grateful to my supporters because my growth is once again a direct result of their assistance.”

Nozi performed “One Night Only” by Jennifer Holliday, and for her Joyous collaboration, she sang “Wenzile.” The judges were impressed by both acts.

“When you sing, your heart sweeps the floor. You can sing, guy! ” Mhlongo remarked to her before uttering his first “Woo-shem! ” of the evening.

Seete responded, “Your night has come. This Sunday is yours. You pay attention to details. You can go high and lose your mind on stage, but your approach to each song you perform is so delicate.”

Nozi stated, “Compared to previous week, I feel considerably better about my performances this week. I believe I performed better.

“Thank you to the judges for recognizing my effort and determination. Thank you to everyone who has supported me by voting for me and believing in my dream. I am privileged and appreciative to each and every one of you.”

Next to take the stage was Mpilo, who sang “Man in the Mirror” by Michael Jackson, followed by “Ndenzel’ Uncedo” by Joyous.

Mpilo stated, “I am honored to perform alongside Joyous Celebration.” It is a time I will never forget, and my first performance for inspo song was very fantastic and heartfelt because the song had a meaningful message and was dedicated to my grandfather. That person makes me feel so much better and more connected.”

Seete stated of the first song, “You gave it an attitude that I thoroughly enjoyed.”

She believed, however, that Mpilo held back during her second performance.

Bogopa said: “Mpilo, relax. You have nothing to be concerned about. You are in command and in control. You are the show’s director.”

Mhlongo concurred: “You are a deadly competitor.” You did not move an inch (during your performance), yet you moved the entire nation.”

Thapelo closed the show by performing “I Look To You” by Whitney Houston and “Hallelujah Nkateko” by Joyous.

Bogopa stated, regarding the gospel song, “I’ll tell you for free: this is your genre. When you achieve success in this genre, adhere to it. This is how you will communicate with the world.”

Mhlongo feigned to search the judges’ desk for something he had misplaced while announcing, “Now, wena, I’m out of woo-shems. I am searching for them! ”

Seete threw up her hands and exclaimed, “I have no idea what else you want us to say!

Sunday at 5pm, watch Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) to find out who made the Top 5.
