Margaret Ferrier, a Scottish member of parliament, has been condemned to perform 270 hours of unpaid labor after admitting to travelling from London to Scotland on a train while infected with Covid-19.

Ferrier was not penalized for exposing the public to “the risk of infection, illness, and death.”

After undergoing a coronavirus test in September 2020, the member of parliament traveled in and around Glasgow and to London.

While awaiting election results, the now-independent Member of Parliament for Rutherglen and Hamilton West addressed the Houses of Parliament and toured London. At the time, she was an SNP representative.

The 61-year-old former SNP representative made from Glasgow to Westminster and back while suffering from Covid between September 27 and September 29, 2020.

She traveled to the House of Commons while awaiting the results of a coronavirus test, and then made after learning she had contracted the virus.

In a prior hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court, Ms. Ferrier, an independent member of parliament for Rutherglen and Hamilton West, admitted exposing individuals “to the risk of infection, illness, and death” by visiting various places in the Glasgow area and London after being told to self-isolate.

She stayed the night in a London hotel before travelling the next day to Glasgow, where she attended a liturgy at St. Mungo’s church and a tavern in Prestwick, Ayrshire, among other places. At the time, Scotland was under severe instructions.

According to information supplied by the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority, it has come to light that she claimed £175 in costs for the overnight stay.
