Six US Air Force officers lose their job for failing to execute the assigned duties effectively

On Monday, the US Air Force fired six officers, including two commanders, from their positions at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota for failing to perform their duties. The officers were relieved of their duties by Maj. Gen. Andrew Gebara, commander of the 8th Air Force, due to a “loss of confidence” in their ability to complete their assigned duties, according to a news release.

The commanders of the 5th Mission Support Group and the 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron were fired from their positions of leadership, along with four subordinate leaders. The Air Force Global Strike Command did not provide the names of the officers who were let go or further details on the reason for their dismissals.

According to two defense officials who spoke to CNN, the commanders and their subordinates were relieved of duty after their units failed an inspection that tested whether the nuclear weapon stockpile at the base was safe and secure at all times.

The 5th Mission Support Group is responsible for base facilities, infrastructure, and troops, while the 5th Logistics Readiness Squadron manages supply chains and plans deployments. The Minot Air Force Base houses both ballistic missile silos and strategic bombers, making it a key factor in the US’ nuclear power supply.

Gebara emphasized that these personnel actions were necessary to maintain the high standards required of units entrusted with supporting the country’s nuclear mission. He also reaffirmed the importance of the Air Force’s mission to safeguard global combat power and conduct strategic deterrence operations in a safe, secure, and effective manner.
