Sevilla upset with Jules Kounde for aggravating an injury risking his transfer to Chelsea

Sevilla are upset at Jules Kounde for threatening a £69 million deal to Chelsea after the defender was obliged to have surgery for an injury that flared up during international duty.

Thomas Tuchel has named Kounde as his preferred replacement for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, both of whom have left the club on free transfers.

Chelsea were interested in signing Kounde last summer, but their defensive alternatives forced the Blues to bargain rather than pay his £69 million release clause.

The Blues do not have that luxury this time, and they were prepared to activate Kounde’s release clause in order to sign the defender in time for pre-season.

However, Kounde had surgery on Tuesday to correct a long-standing pelvic condition, and he now faces a race against time to be ready for the start of the season.

According to the Sun, Sevilla are upset that Kounde aggravated the situation while on international duty with France, and they believe the defender has jeopardized a £69 million windfall by threatening a move to Chelsea.

The cash-strapped Spaniards are still hoping Chelsea would pay the release clause, but it may depend on how Kounde recovers.

Chelsea resume to pre-season training on July 2nd, with Tuchel eager to get as many of his new arrivals in as possible before then.
