Senior officers may earn up to £50,000 working from home

Senior police detectives may work from home for roughly £50,000 a year and are eligible for discounts at stores like a maker of sex toys.

Officers investigating unsolved murder and rape cases are among the “remote” or “blended” professions that come with perks including an allowance for home office supplies and discounts at businesses like Cineworld, Domino’s, and sex toy maker Lovehoney.

The Large and Statutory Crime Review Officer position is advertised by the Avon and Somerset Constabulary. This person would work part-time in a small team reviewing investigations into major crimes.

Examining “stranger rape cases, outstanding missing people, undiscovered murders, multi-agency domestic homicide, child and vulnerable adult safeguarding cases” is part of the £27,432 to £29,331 a year employment.

The chosen applicant will analyze “cold cases” and have the option of working from home. Other important positions with the option to work from home sometimes are available in Avon and Somerset, such as “senior criminal intelligence analysts” with salaries up to £43,000 annually.

British Transport Police (BTP) is offering a ‘Force Events Lead’ position with a salary of £47,359 per year, along with a grant for the chosen applicant to purchase tools for remote and mixed working.

Additionally, it provides a Blue Light Card discount program that allows customers to save money at high street stores including Lovehoney, Cineworld, Domino’s, Alton Towers, Starbucks, and JD Sports.

Being the “primary point of contact for intelligence, briefings, governance, and quality assurance” and overseeing a section that handles “public order safety for major events and football” are also responsibilities of the London-based position. A position for a “Digital Forensics Unit Investigator” paying £30,614 year is also advertised by BTP and entails looking at confiscated mobile devices. The position comes with a budget to purchase tools for working from home.

Suffolk Constabulary is hiring a Senior Policy and Commissioning Officer with a salary of £42,000 for a position that includes some remote work.

Up to half of the top terror detectives at the Metropolitan Police were working from home at any one time, according to a report in The Mail on Sunday earlier this year. Senior officers expressed frustration about the inability to have face-to-face meetings.

“Some jobs, particularly those that have little dealings with the public, may be fulfilled to the same quality from any location,” Avon and Somerset said.
