Second guy accused in Youssef Assoum’s suspected gangland killing

A high-ranking bikie was spectacularly apprehended on a Sydney street a few days ago, and now a second guy has been charged for his suspected involvement in a gangland murder that occurred eight years ago.

Tarek Zahed, a Comanchero sergeant-at-arms, was detained on Sunday after arriving in Sydney from Melbourne.

In order to stop Zahed in Edgecliff in eastern Sydney, police used bean ball rounds to blast out the windows of the black BMW he was driving.

On Monday, he appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on charges related to the 2014 December stabbing and shooting death of Youssef Assoum, a 29-year-old man, in Bankstown.

After being shot ten times as he exited a gym in Sydney’s west with his younger brother Omar, who perished, Zahed escaped an attempt on his life in May.

An accused accessory after the fact to murder has been charged in connection with Assoum’s killing by detectives working with Taskforce Erebus, which was formed to look into deaths connected to gangs.

The 44-year-old man was suspected of attempting to fire and wreck the victim’s automobile when he was apprehended at a Georges Hall residence early on Thursday.

He will appear at Bankstown Local Court on Thursday without being granted bail.

*Police indicate Police were familiar with Assoum. They said the police suspect he was a gang member and that they are looking into whether his killing was connected to two other shootings that happened hours later.
