Scooter hits car on Thai island, killing 1 Brit and wounding 2

A scooter accident on a Thai island resulted in the death of one British visitor and severe injuries to another.

On the island of Koh Samui, a 36-year-old man and his 30-year-old buddy are said to have indulged in alcohol at a neighbourhood pub before attempting to catch a taxi back to their hotel in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Around one in the morning local time, the two men are said to have attempted to pass the vehicle on a dark, narrow route when they crashed the white Honda scooter into the rear of the yellow trash truck.

When they got on the scene, police and paramedics started CPR on the 36-year-old guy and continued for around 10 minutes.

But after suffering a fractured neck and serious brain injuries, the British man was declared dead.

The guy operating the scooter, the second man, was brought to the Koh Samui Hospital for medical attention.

When the victim is stable, the officers will ask him about the discovery of six beer cans in the scooter’s under-seat storage area.

The 42-year-old trash truck driver said that he alerted emergency services after hearing the two guys collide with the industrial waste truck’s rear end.

When the event occurred, he and his team were on their way to the waste disposal facility after picking up rubbish along the Chaweng beach.

While making a bend, the back wheel made an abruptly loud noise.

So we parked and down to have a look. I saw that a motorbike had collided, revealing two visitors who were hurt.

I phoned the police right away to let them know what had transpired. I apologise deeply.

Around one in the morning local time, the two men are said to have attempted to pass the car as it turned down a dark, narrow route while riding a white Honda scooter (seen in the aftermath of the collision).

Cans and beer bottles were discovered beneath the motorcycle’s seat, according to the police.

Police suspect that the tourist may have consumed alcohol at neighbouring pubs before going back to their lodging.

According to the preliminary inquiry, we discovered that the two cars were moving in the same direction, said Lieutenant Colonel Chatchavil Nakmousik. The front was where the trash truck was.

The biker attempted to pass the trash truck, but was unable, and an accident occurred.

Both the wounded tourist and the truck driver will be interviewed by police. Additionally, we’ll be watching the CCTV.

With hundreds of visitors and expats dying on the roads every year, Thailand has one of the worst records for road safety in the whole world.

Canadian Christian missionary Marine Scott, 49, was riding in Kanchanaburi in June when he was struck by a pick-up vehicle, immediately killing him.

By 2027, mortality are expected to drop from 32.7 per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people, according to ministers.
