School employee who raped a lady on her way home gets five years

A school support worker who sexually assaulted a stranger as she was walking home after a night out has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

At a court in June, Jeffery Oviasogie, 21, admitted guilt to being charged with raping a scared 29-year-old woman who was in Aberdeen, Scotland’s Bon Accord Terrace Gardens on September 26 of last year.

He “pushed” his crying victim to the ground, where she “screamed for assistance,” and then he left her there.

At the High Court in Glasgow on Tuesday, the Nigerian national was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison.

He will be supervised for a further three years after his release and remain on the sex offenders registry eternally.

Six months before the incident, his national’s guest visa had also come to an end. It is unknown how his “application for permission to stay,” which he had filed, fared.

He had moved to the UK in 2018, and at the time of the sex assault, he was working as a support worker at Camphill Special Needs School in Aberdeen.

During the sentence hearing on Tuesday, Judge John McCormick told Oviasogie, “You assaulted and raped a lone girl as she went home in Aberdeen.”

“You restrained her violently and disregarded her cries for assistance.”

Before travelling to the Underground nightclub in Aberdeen, the victim spent the evening out with pals at two other pubs.

At three in the morning, everyone dispersed and went home alone.

Oviasogie immediately approached the lady as she was walking and struck up a conversation.

Then, when she entered the Bon Accord Terrace Gardens, he followed her.

According to the prosecutor, John McElroy, “She started to feel uneasy.”

The lady was conscious of Oviasogie following her as she proceeded along a narrow lane.

The next recollection she had is him lying on top of her while she lay on her back in a muddy place.

Despite her cries for assistance, she was unable to move due to his weight.

She was warned to “shut up” by Oviasogie.

According to Mr. McElroy, the school employee raped the victim while holding her down.

The advocate deputy said, “She kept yelling and screaming.” She felt terrified.

A neighbouring guy heard the screaming and then saw Oviasogie, an Aberdeen native, standing on the lady.

Authorities were able to identify the rapist thanks to the fact that he was seen fleeing while wearing a recognisable red baseball cap.

“The lady stayed on the ground, weeping, and curled into a ball,” said Mr. McElroy.

Three more students passed, one of whom called the police to report the distressed victim.

Around an hour later, while still wearing the headgear, police officers came upon Oviasogie in Justice Mill Lane in Aberdeen.

Although he had dirt on his pants and sneakers, he denied being a part in the assault.

On Tuesday, defence attorney Edith Forrest stated: “Relating to the event, he went out after work with coworkers.

He said that he drank a lot of alcohol, which was out of character for him.

He acknowledges that, to some extent, he was bragging to his classmates, which at the moment shows a certain amount of immaturity.

He claims that he often considers the victim and the effect this will have had on her.
