SASSA Qualifying criteria for Child Support Grant (CSG)

The SASSA, an entity of the Department of Social Development responsible for administering social assistance in terms of Section 3 of the Social Assistance Act has released the criteria for its child support grant CSG.

The conditions are as follows:

The applicannt must be a South African citizen, a permanent resident in South Africa or a refugee residing in South Africa.

Applicants must be the primary care giver or overseer of the child concerned.

Child must be younger than 18 years old.

The child must not be receiving a state funded grant or be maintained or looked after in any state funded institution.

Applicant and the child must comply with all required tests.

A care giver cannot apply or stand for more than 6 children who are not the care giver’s biological children.
