San Francisco Supervisor Hillary Ronen Sparks Debate with Radical Progressive Proposals

Hillary Ronen, a Democrat who sits on San Francisco’s board of supervisors, is pushing for a $5 million reparations plan for the city’s black residents, promising them a $97,000 salary and wiping away their personal debt.

Ronen, who is a graduate of Berkley Law and owns a $2.4 million home with her public defender husband, is also a proponent of defunding the police despite escalating crime and homelessness.

She believes that some Honduran fentanyl dealers are human trafficking victims and should be protected rather than prosecuted.

She is a supporter of former DA Chesa Boudin, who abolished cash bail for criminals and allowed open-air drug markets to pop up across the city.

Ronen also proposed a resolution that would legalize sex work across the entire state, saying that it is necessary to address the oldest profession in the world and protect sex workers, victims of trafficking, and residents of residential neighborhoods from the ills of this underground industry.

She opposes locating two fugitives wanted for crimes committed in San Francisco in 2009, arguing that it would require making an exception to the city’s sanctuary policy.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will revisit the reparations plan later this year, with the board signaling its enthusiasm for the plan.

The plan includes payments of $5 million to every eligible black adult, the elimination of personal debt and tax burdens, guaranteed annual incomes of at least $97,000 for 250 years, and homes in San Francisco for just $1 per family. However, the feasibility of such a plan is still unclear.

Critics have denounced Ronen’s proposals, with one former BLM activist calling the reparations plan “unrealistic and disgusting.”

Venture capitalists and Republicans have also criticized Ronen for wading into the Silicon Valley Bank collapse and subsequent market chaos, while police associations have demanded reparations for the negative effects of slavery on the black community.

Despite the criticisms, Ronen remains committed to her progressive liberal policies.
