Sadly, another Mpumalanga traffic officer is killed while on duty

The murder of a traffic officer who was killed while doing her duty saddens Mpumalanga’s acting MEC for community safety, security, and liaison Speedy Mashilo.

On Monday, Jeanette Mlangeni was killed on the R544 Road between Emalahleni and Kriel in Mpumalanga after being struck by a small delivery vehicle.

According to Moeti Mmusi, a department spokeswoman, Mlangeni saw that the delivery vehicle’s driver was reportedly overtaking recklessly. She motioned for him to stop, but the same car struck her.

Mashilo has expressed condolences to the grieving family, friends, and coworkers of the dead and urged drivers to respect law enforcement officials, stating that their job is to keep people safe on the roads, not to inconvenience them.

“Although the situation is still being investigated, we think that extreme prudence on the part of drivers might have prevented such gruesomeness,” added Mashilo.

The regulations of the road and law enforcement personnel must always be respected by drivers. This will aid in lowering mortality and traffic accidents.

This is the second traffic officer to pass away while doing their duties in Mpumalanga since the year began. After killing a traffic police in January, a truck driver was detained and charged with culpable murder.

The vehicle struck the officer, Gijimane July Nkabinde, on the N4 toll road.

Nkabinde was working at the Middelburg weighbridge when the event happened, according to the department’s statement at the time. He is said to have been guiding the vehicle toward the weighbridge nearby when the event took place.
