SA laments the passing of PSL’s Molelekoa

The South African football community mourns the passing of assistant referee Moeketsi Molelekoa, who was killed in a car accident in his birthplace of Botshabelo on Friday.

He served as a linesman in the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the highest level of South African soccer. Born in Botshabelo, Free State, in 2014, Molelekoa made his PSL debut as a referee.

The head of referees for the South African Football Association (Safa), Abdul Ebrahim, verified the terrible news.

This weekend, all league matches in the DStv Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship (first division) will observe a moment of silence in honor of Molelekoa.

Safa president Danny Jordaan expressed his condolences to the assistant referee’s family, saying, “Our sincerest condolences to the family of Mr. Moeketsi Molelekoa and the football community.” A tragic and painful loss; may God offer you healing, consolation, and grace. His soul may rest in peace.

The Premier Soccer League also issued a message of condolence: “The Premier Soccer League is devastated by the demise of Safa match official Moeketsi Molelekoa. The league extends its deepest sympathies to the Molelekoa family, Safa, and the whole football community.”
