SA government sets to officially launch the 2022 Women’s Month at Olive Conference Centre in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal

The 2022 Women’s Month will be formally introduced by the government on Monday at the Olive Conference Center in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The 66th anniversary of the march of some 20 000 women to the Union Buildings to protest the country’s then-current pass restrictions falls during this year’s Women’s Month.

The National Women’s Month programme is built on continuing initiatives throughout the activities of the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, all of which are taking place in the framework of the government’s stated national priorities.

This year’s Women’s Month will be introduced by the Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD), in collaboration with the departments of Sports, Arts, and Culture, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government, and other governmental organisations.

This year’s Women’s Month, with the theme “Women’s Socio-Economic Rights and Empowerment: Building Back Better for Women’s Resilience!,” is a call to action for everyone in society, the government, and partners to make real progress in addressing the issues that continue to have the greatest negative impact on the lives of women and girls.

This year’s Women’s Month will begin with a full-day training on waste management and identifying economic prospects in the waste sector value chains for women, youth, and persons with disabilities, according to the Department of Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities.

The session, according to the agency, supports the month’s focus of removing access obstacles in largely male-dominated fields.

According to the department, the workshop will emphasise developing knowledge of the financial potential in the waste management industry for women, young people, and people with disabilities, including through value chains in waste management and reprocessing/recycling into new goods.

Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities, will give the keynote message to the media and the general public during the workshop, officially kicking off Women’s Month in 2022.

The National Women’s Day celebration will take held in KwaZulu-Richmond Natal’s Local Municipality in the uMgungundlovu District.
