After an attack on the Karachun Dam, President Zelensky’s city, Kryvyi Rih, was swamped with water on Wednesday afternoon and overnight.

The hits severely damaged the dam and a nearby pumping station, resulting in the release of vast quantities of water into the Inhulets River and its consequent enlargement.

The city’s streets and homes were flooded overnight as the river overflowed its banks, and several bridges were also destroyed.

The deputy head of the president’s office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, stated that two districts of the city, which had a pre-war population of 650,000, were at risk of flooding.

These districts, including the city center, have been ordered evacuated.

The water is currently moving downstream towards Kherson, where it would likely damage or destroy the pontoon bridges used by Ukrainian troops to attack the city.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, it seems likely that Russian forces targeted the Karachun Dam in order to damage Ukrainian pontoon bridges further downstream.

The attack is “in light of recent reports that Ukrainian troops are attempting to strengthen their bridgehead across the Inhulets River near Davydiv Brid as part of the ongoing Kherson counteroffensive,” according to the statement.
