Russell Wilson’s first season in Denver has undoubtedly fallen short of expectations.
The Broncos are now the worst team in the AFC West with a 3-8 record, and their game against the Chiefs on December 11 was flexed off of “Sunday Night Football” on Tuesday. In addition, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the 34-year-old quarterback “had lost some guys” in the locker room.
“One thing I’ve continually heard is that [first-year Broncos coach] Nathaniel Hackett has not lost the locker room despite everything that has gone wrong and everything that people are talking about his employment right now. Russ has lost personnel from his team. He has lost a few teammates in that locker room, Pelissero noted on Tuesday’s episode of “The Insiders.”

Wilson arrived in Denver in March following a blockbuster deal with Seattle, where he played for 10 seasons. A few months later, he signed a five-year, $245 million deal extension with the Broncos, who started the season with great offensive hopes but have instead performed poorly.
Wilson has passed for 2,369 yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions in 10 games this season, while completing 58.9 percent of his passes compared to 64.8 percent last season.

Only twice have the Broncos scored more than 20 points in a game this season, as concern regarding Hackett’s employment fate continues to grow.
Six games left, and the Broncos are likely preparing for an offseason of soul-searching following a year in which their postseason hopes quickly evaporated.
