The Broncos fired Nathaniel Hackett before the season ever began

The tenure of Nathaniel Hackett in Denver was brief.

The Broncos sacked their first-year head coach on Monday, a day after a dismal 51-14 loss to the Rams on Christmas Day dropped Denver’s record to 4-11.

Hackett, 43, was hired by the Broncos in January 2019 after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Packers for three seasons from 2019 to 2021.

The combination of his success with Aaron Rodgers, the blockbuster deal for Russell Wilson, and the accompanying $245 million contract generated enormous expectations in Denver. Wilson’s first season with the Broncos was a disaster, as he threw 12 touchdown passes in 13 games.
