Royal expert Kinsey Schofield has described Meghan Markle’s decision not to attend King Charles’ coronation as “disrespectful” to the man who walked her down the aisle, according to reports.
While Prince Harry will be in attendance at the coronation next month, Meghan will remain in the US with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
The decision may have severed any remaining hopes of reconciliation between Meghan and the Royal Family, said Schofield, host of the To Di For Daily podcast.
She added that Meghan has “permanently alienated herself from her in-laws and there is no going back”.
Schofield noted that the Royal Family and their staff will likely be relieved that Meghan will not be attending the coronation.
However, she does not believe that Harry’s attendance will improve relations between the couple and the Royal Family.
Harry’s brand is “on life support in the states”, Schofield stated, and the Royal Family will likely recognise that Harry needs them more than they need him at this point.
In 2018, Charles stepped in to walk Meghan down the aisle after it emerged that her father, Thomas Markle, would not be attending the wedding.
The coronation is scheduled for May 6.
