Royal AM coach says Andile Mpisani is talented

John Maduka, who just made a dramatic return to Royal AM as head coach, has praised Andile Mpisane for being a talented player.

Mpisane, age 22, is the club’s chairman and the son of the flamboyant businesswoman Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize.

Mpisane has been criticized for attempting to exert pressure through playing professional soccer. Users of social media have criticized him regarding his weight and his lack of abilities. However, the youngest chairman in the country does not listen to pessimists.

On Sunday, the player/chairman led Royal AM out of the dugout as captain against AmaZulu in the Diski Challenge. After an hour on the field, he was eventually replaced after demonstrating some deft touches and coming close to scoring from a free kick.

He was observed having a few words with the club’s director of player development, Khabo Zondo, indicating his displeasure with his dismissal.

“He is still young and a talented player,” Maduka remarked in the press conference preceding Sunday’s Royal AM match against Cape Town City.

“His talent is undeniable; there is no escaping it. To get to where we are, we had to begin someplace. Therefore, we provide opportunity to everybody who raises their hand and declares, “I can do that.” I am convinced that he is one of the guys with the most talent and promise.”

When asked if Mpisane could make his PSL debut in an official match, Maduka kept his cards close to his chest, stating only that the chairperson-cum-player trains with the club.

“We chose our team based on their performance in training. He does train with the team, Maduka confirmed.

In September, Mpisane stole the show during his Macufe Cup match against Kaizer Chiefs. He never touched the ball, but he was on the podium to accept the prize from the sponsors.
