Robbery suspect spotted FLOATING on a lake is arrested

In Alice, Eastern Cape, a 25-year-old male suspect was apprehended after a commercial robbery.

Captain Siphokazi Mawisa, a spokeswoman for the South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Eastern Cape, said that three men entered the premises and identified themselves as police officers. The three were wearing bulletproof SAPS vests.

While conversing with a teller, the suspect brandished a pistol and demanded money. The group directed the teller to access the money storage facility. They then proceeded to steal four money-filled bags and fled via the rear door.

“The community noticed one of the suspects and pursued him until he vanished in the water,” Mawisa said.

The police reacted to the incident and, following further inquiry, discovered the suspect floating in a lake. He was apprehended. A substantial police inquiry resulted to the recovery of an undisclosed sum of cash.

The guy who was discovered floating in a lake is charged with robbery. It is anticipated that he will shortly appear before the Alice Magistrate’s Court. The SAPS said that the two other suspects remain at large, but that an investigation is underway.

Previously, it was stated that a single suspect was apprehended in the early hours of today morning, August 24, in the Western Cape for possession of uncut diamonds and plants.

Police spokesman Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi said West Coast Rural Flying Squad was conducting normal patrols on the N7 near Clanwilliam early Wednesday morning when they stopped a white Toyota Corolla with a single passenger.

“The car and the occupants’ baggage were examined, and plants with an estimated street value of R400,000 and five uncut diamonds were seized,” he added.
