Rihanna’s Fashion Choice Ahead of Met Gala Honours Karl Lagerfeld
Ahead of the Met Gala, Barbadian superstar Rihanna has made a fashion statement with her black and white fur look on Twitter, which appears to echo the Chanel collection that Karl Lagerfeld oversaw as the creative director of the fashion house.
The pictures depict Rihanna in a black and white fur outfit with a large hat, while also displaying her growing pregnancy bump.
She has not confirmed whether the fur she is wearing is real or fake.
Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s Relationship
During her headline slot at the 2023 Super Bowl half-time show, the 35-year-old confirmed her pregnancy and announced that she is expecting her second child with her partner, rapper ASAP Rocky.
The couple made headlines in September 2021 when they arrived last on the red carpet at the Met Gala wearing co-ordinated outfits.
The pair reportedly began their relationship in 2020, and they have only been pictured together in public a handful of times.
Honouring Karl Lagerfeld at the Met Gala
This year’s Met Gala is honouring the late Karl Lagerfeld, who died in February 2019 at the age of 85.
Vogue reports that the event will be ahead of the spring exhibition of his work at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
During Lagerfeld’s time at Chanel, the fashion house launched a fake fur collection in 1994, which featured oversized black and white hats, skirts and large jackets.
Rihanna’s black and white fur look resembles the oversized fur looks that were seen in Lagerfeld’s collection.
Fashion Inspiration from One Hundred And One Dalmatians
The black and white fur look that Rihanna donned also resembles the iconic fashion choices of the villainous Cruella de Vil from the 1961 Disney film One Hundred And One Dalmatians.
The character was known for her oversized fur coats, as well as her black and white hair.
Rihanna’s Music Career
Rihanna released the official music video for her single Lift Me Up last year, which was recorded for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and later nominated for an Oscar.
Her last solo album release was in 2016 with Anti.
