Jared Leto to play Karl Lagerfeld biopic

Jared Leto, star of “Requiem for a Dream,” will portray renowned fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in a film.

Leto will also co-produce alongside Lagerfeld’s House of Karl Lagerfeld the untitled film. Leto and his partner Emma Ludbrook will produce through their production firm Paradox, according to Deadline.

The film’s executive producers will include Pier Paolo Righi, Caroline Lebar, and S’bastien Jondeau, who were close confidants of the late fashion legend.

Lebar advised Lagerfeld on his brand and personal communications for more than 35 years, while Righi has served as Lagerfeld’s CEO for more than a decade.

Jondeau served as the designer’s personal assistant and bodyguard for twenty years, and now serves as the brand’s Style Consultant.

“Karl has always inspired me,” Leto stated, as quoted by Deadline.

“He was a real polymath, an artist, an innovator, a leader, and, above all, a gentleman. When we met the Karl Lagerfeld team, we immediately shared a vision for a biopic that would be a respectful homage to Karl while also pushing the aesthetic limits of what a biopic can be.

“I am extremely appreciative to Karo, Pier, and Seb for allowing us to travel together.”

According to Deadline, the specific plot is presently under wraps, but the film will focus on Lagerfeld’s most significant connections, as seen through an unpredictable lens, much like the man himself.

Currently, producers are conversing with filmmakers
