Karl Stefanovic says he is totally against the idea of a shorter school week

The concept of adopting shorter school weeks for improved productivity and mental health of both students and teachers has been dismissed by Today host Karl Stefanovic. The idea was brought up after changes adopted to reduce face-to-face learning by a host of Queensland schools were discussed on the Friday morning’s program.

Former principal Tracy Tully along with child psychologist Andrew Greenfield supported the changes, citing a host of productivity and mental health benefits. However, Stefanovic blasted the idea, telling viewers that he was not in favor of it.

He said, “It ain’t popular with me that’s for sure. [I’m not going to] wrap my kids in cotton wool, they can stay at school for more hours.”

Stefanovic went on to say, “I’m not leaving work to go pick the kids up on a Friday afternoon.”

The Gold Coast’s Varsity College’s secondary campus allows students to finish at 12.45pm every Friday, giving them the option to head home or remain on grounds to study. Despite the benefits mentioned by Tully and Greenfield, Stefanovic’s dismissal of the idea may indicate that there is still some resistance to alternative school hours for teenagers.

At the event, which was held in memory of the late diplomat Dr. John Gee, Argentinian Mr. Grossi served as the main speaker. Since her breakup four nights prior, Ms. Bishop had not been seen in public until that moment. She made her first public appearance with Mr. Panton in 2014. Since then, the two have been seen together at a variety of occasions, including Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough’s wedding in 2018.
