Hugo Shorter’s Statement on violence in Afghanistan

Hugo Shorter, Chargé d’Affaires of the UK Mission to Afghanistan in Doha, remarked following the violence in Afghanistan:

The United Kingdom does not support anyone, including Afghan nationals, who seeks to achieve political change in Afghanistan through violence, or any activity inciting violence for political purposes, and will not allow UK soil to be used to plan or prepare it, and strongly discourages others from doing so.

Violence of any type is not in Afghanistan’s or the international community’s interests, and we condemn any terrorist actions.
There is no alternative to engaging pragmatically with the current leadership of Afghanistan to promote peace and stability, deliver crucial humanitarian aid to the Afghan people, and address common security issues, and that is exactly what we are doing.
