Richard Madeley reveals hospital dash due to ‘freak accident’ on GMB return

Richard Madeley has made his return to Good Morning Britain after a two-week break where he was replaced by Ed Balls.

The 66-year-old host explained that he had been absent due to a “freak accident” which required an operation. He remained off screens until he fully recovered.

On his return, Richard shared that he had a “freak accident” where he was crouching down by his open car door when it closed on him, causing him to bite his tongue.

The injury was severe and he needed stitches, which led to the operation. Susanna Reid welcomed Richard back and remarked that he looked like he had made a full recovery.

Richard stated that it took two weeks for him to fully recover and he had to cancel two weeks of being on the show. Susanna expressed her sympathy, while Richard thanked the staff for taking care of the show during his absence.

Richard and Susanna are regular hosts of Good Morning Britain, which airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
