Rep. George Santos says Congress isn’t about his personal life after taking office

Rep. George Santos, the scandal-ridden Republican congressman who was found lying about huge swaths of his biography, declared early on Saturday that he intended to serve out his time representing New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

George Santos released a statement declaring he is 'committed' to serving his district shortly after being sworn into Congress early on Saturday morning
Santos delivered a statement soon after 2am on Saturday after he and the other members of the House of Representatives were sworn into the 118th Congress, following deadlock over the Speaker’s gavel.

The gay New York Republican has acknowledged to fabricating his employment history at Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, as well as his college attendance. He is also accused of falsely stating that his ancestors were Jewish Holocaust survivors, that he was married until just before he filed for the first time to run for Congress in 2020.

State and federal investigations have been launched to see whether his dubious financial dealings violated any laws.George Santos released a statement declaring he is 'committed' to serving his district shortly after being sworn into Congress early on Saturday morning

Santos stated that his work on Capitol Hill is ‘not about [his] personal life’ and he urged Americans and fellow legislators to “set aside political differences.”

Shortly after being sworn into Congress early on Saturday morning, George Santos released a statement professing his ‘commitment’ to serving his area.

Later that day, demonstrators gathered in front of Santos’ office in Queens, New York, to demand that he be imprisoned and no longer represent their urban/suburban district.

‘I am devoted to serve the people of New York’s 3rd Congressional District and finding ways to solve complex problems,’ Santos said.

‘The work begins today, and I am determined to engage with both Republicans and Democrats and support sensible policies that will give financing for local law enforcement, and cutting inflation.’

He continued, ‘Now is the time to put political differences aside, stop the finger pointing, and start producing results.’

This is about providing results for my constituents, finding bipartisan solutions, and correcting disastrous policies that have generated some of the worst inflation and crime in the history of our nation.

Santos’ Long Island constituents flocked to the streets of Queens mere hours after he was sworn in to Congress to demand he resign from office.

They screamed: ‘Lock him up!’ – a statement originally used by former President Donald Trump in relation to Hillary Clinton’s email controversy.

Santos’ Long Island constituents flocked to the streets of Queens mere hours after he was sworn in to Congress to demand he resign from office. After it was discovered he lied on his resume, they cried, “Lock him up!”

One of the demonstrators told journalist Oliya Scootercaster, ‘It’s crazy that he still has a job at this point.’ ‘He lied about everything on his CV and tried to justify it by claiming that everyone does it, but while people lie about knowing excel when they only sort of know it, you don’t lie about your family dying in the Holocaust or on 9/11.

That is extremely immoral.

Robert Zimmerman, his Democratic opponent, Assemblyman Edward Braunstein, and activist Jody Kass Finkel were among the demonstrators.

“My sole objective and goal is to form a bipartisan coalition to remove George Santos from office. If his real identity is George Santos, he is a fake and a threat to our country and the constituents of our congressional district, Zimmerman told the New York Post.

Protesters took turns speaking at the event and many times they were caught yelling as a group: ‘We demand more!’ together with “Liar, liar, pants on fire!”

One demonstrator accused Santos of ‘weaponizing’ the Jewish religion.'It's insane that he still has a job right now,' one of the protesters said at the protest. 'He completely made up everything on his resume and he tried to excuse himself by saying everyone does that, but people like about lie about knowing excel when they only kind of know excel, you don't lie about your family dying in the Holocaust or 9/11'

The man stated that it is revolting to minimize the one million lives lost during the Holocaust for personal political benefit.

At the protest, one of the demonstrators stated, “It’s absurd that he still has a job.”

“He lied about everything on his resume and tried to justify it by saying that everyone does it, but while people lie about knowing excel when they only sort of know it, you don’t lie about your family perish[ing] in the Holocaust or on 9/11.”

Santos has admitted he lied about his résumé and family deaths in the Holocaust and 9/11 attacks.

One of the major lies he told was claiming his mother died during 9/11. Now, his former roommate Gregory Morey-Parker, who rented a room in Jackson Heights from Santos, has refuted Santos’s accusations.

He stated, “I am certain I would have known if Fatima was involved in 9/11.Santos has revealed he lied about his resume and about having family dying in the Holocaust and in 9/11

I am certain she would have brought up her 9/11 participation.

In 2016, Santos’ mother Fatima passed away from cancer.

Morey-Parker stated that he became fairly close to Fatima while living with the family in Queens. During his time with them, Santos used the alias Anthony Devolder.

During his time with the family, he said he witnessed Santos lie on multiple occasions, including when he claimed his family had a home on Nantucket and when he said he bought a bottle of wine for them to drink when Fatima had actually purchased it, according to Patch.

He stated, “Santos had delusions of grandeur.” Fatima would roll her eyes and comment, “Anthony and his stories.” His mother was quite dissatisfied with him and the ludicrous lifestyle he portrayed.
