Rep. Carolyn Maloney told The New York Times Editorial Board “off the record” that President Biden “is not running again.”
Maloney made the statements in an on-the-record interview; both sides must agree something is “off the record” Maloney has already questioned Biden’s reelection plans and advised he not run.
As his popularity numbers fall, some Democrats are increasingly comfortable contemplating the prospect that he won’t run again.

Maloney remarked during a primary debate against Rep. Jerry Nadler and attorney Suraj Patel that she didn’t think Obama would run again.
Maloney wants New York’s 12th congressional district.
She responded, “I don’t think he’s running.”
Maloney subsequently apologised to the president on CNN and urged him to run again. She insists he won’t.
Maloney isn’t the only one who doubts Biden 2024. Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips said he won’t back the president in 2024.
Phillips said he wouldn’t back Biden in 2024. “A new generation of engaging, well-prepared, vibrant Democrats should stand forward,” he said on WCCO-AM.
The White House says Biden will run again.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre: “I’ll be clear.” “The president has made this obvious. He’ll run in 2024.”
Maloney’s primary is one of 2022’s most contested House races. Redistricting placed her and Nadler in the same district.
Schumer cited Nadler’s efforts as House Judiciary Committee head throughout both of Trump’s impeachments.
