Denver — An automated recount verified Monday that Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert won her reelection attempt against Democrat Adam Frisch. The nail-biter contest proved the known conservative firebrand’s aggressive manner is wearying voters in her conservative Colorado district.

Secretary of State Jena Griswold presented the results Monday evening. Frisch netted a total of four votes in the recount, far from enough to close a 500-plus vote disparity with Boebert. An Aspen City Councilman, Frisch had already conceded the contest last month.

Few expected the contest to come down to such a small margin. In her first tenure in office, Boebert catapulted to national prominence for her fervent support for former President Donald Trump, aggressive use of social media and readiness to engage in personal feuds with Democratic members.

Frisch ran against what her dubbed her “angertainment,” claiming he wouldn’t back U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as party leader and promoting himself as a nonpartisan problem-solver.

Few considered him much of a chance in the conservative 3rd Congressional District, which butts up against some famed, liberal ski resorts but is dominated by large, less glamorous and energy-rich stretches of rural Colorado.

While Boebert garnered considerable popularity and a seat on the so-called “MAGA Squad,” the fact that the contest ending up in a recount was a sign that the Trump loyalist’s confrontational attitude has its electoral downsides. Until election night, Boebert had been widely favored to win reelection after redistricting rendered the large, conservative district more Republican.

Her razor narrow victory against Frisch startled the political elite as much as the 2020 GOP primary defeat of a five-term congressman that helped place her in office. The one-time owner of a gun-themed restaurant in Rifle, Colorado, Boebert convincingly won the district in 2020′s general election and soon positioned herself as a partisan flashpoint in Washington.

She filmed an advertisement of herself walking the streets of the nation’s capital while carrying a gun, advocated for the right to carry it on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, and engaged in social media feuds with prominent liberal Democrats such as Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar. Frisch stated earlier on Thursday, “I believe 99 percent of the story is here.”
