Race controversy mother, Sally Fifita, curses ‘racist’ passenger on Auckland-Melbourne Qantas flight

Sally Fifita, a mother who was on a Qantas flight from Auckland to Melbourne with her one-year-old son, was subjected to racial abuse by a male passenger.

The passenger referred to Sally as a “fat Islander woman” and her son as a “black kid kicking me” in a text message on his mobile phone.

Sally confronted the man and he tried to delete the message and deny the accusations. She cursed him to forever live with the hurt he caused and said that he will always regret what he did.

Sally had tried her best to minimize the impact of her young son on fellow passengers and had strapped him in to stop him from kicking the seat in front. However, the male passenger in front was already irate before they had even sat down.

Sally posted about the incident on Facebook and said that the whole interaction had nothing to do with her son “kicking” the man’s chair but was due to his racial comments.

Flight attendants eventually found a father traveling with his teenage son who was willing to exchange seats with Sally and her son to defuse the situation. The man then tried to make a grovelling apology, but the flight attendant told him it was not appropriate.

Sally thanked the flight attendants and the family who swapped seats with them. She said that she will never fly without her husband by her side again. However, despite the clash, it has not put her off traveling again.

Facebook users sympathized with Sally, and Daily Mail Australia has contacted Qantas for comment.
