Quinta Brunson responds to Jimmy Kimmel’s lying down joke: ‘I might smack him in the face’

Quinta Brunson dismissed Jimmy Kimmel’s joke at the Emmys on Monday night when he lied down on the stage during her acceptance speech, provoking outrage from viewers who accused him of stealing the show.

According to a Variety video, Brunson told reporters after the event, “I know Jimmy Kimmel… I didn’t feel that the bit bothered me that much, I don’t know what the internet thinks.”

“Jimmy gave me my first major Late Night spot and was one of the first people to watch [Abbott Elementary],” she explained. I consider Jimmy one of the comic godfathers, therefore I was engrossed in the moment when he was onstage.

She said, smiling, “Tomorrow, I may be angry with him. I’ll be on his show on Wednesday, so I may hit him in the face. I don’t know, we’ll see.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, during Brunson’s acceptance speech for outstanding writing for a comedy series on Monday night, presenter Will Arnett brought Kimmel on stage and joked about how he lost the prize.

Brunson told the grounded talk show host, who gave her a thumbs up but remained seated for her remarks, “Jimmy, get up. I won,” according to the article.

As Brunson accepted her prize for ‘Abbott Elementary,’ Kimmel’s joke provoked swift backlash on social media.
