Protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square, London to demand that the proposed Ultra Low Emission Zone, known as ‘Khanage’, be halted and for the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to be removed from office.

Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, was among the hundreds of activists holding a poster demanding the removal of the Mayor, while others carried signs against the scheme, including children.

The ULEZ expansion, intended to tackle climate change by imposing a daily charge of £12.50 on Londoners who drive polluting cars, has been criticised for putting pressure on those already struggling with the cost of living.

Council leaders, including those from Bromley, Barking and Dagenham, Harrow, and Hillingdon, have expressed their concerns about the proposition, and several other London authorities have indicated their willingness to challenge City Hall over the controversial scheme.

In addition to the ULEZ expansion, Sadiq Khan has also come under fire for plans to increase Transport for London fares and council tax bills.
