During a visit to York last November, a protester named Patrick Thelwell hurled five eggs at King Charles and shouted obscenities, including “King Charles is a paedophile,” according to prosecutor Michael Smith.

The incident occurred during a walkabout, and plainclothes officers in the crowd were the first to grab the protester before uniformed police officers also intervened.

Thelwell was arrested and charged with a public order offense of using threatening words or behavior.

CCTV and police bodycam footage of the incident were presented in York Magistrates Court, where the case is being heard.

The court heard that the eggs “passed over” the King and narrowly missed him.

Thelwell allegedly shouted “paedophile,” “King Charles is a paedophile,” and “friends with Jimmy Savile” as he hurled the eggs and as police arrested him.

Thelwell, a 23-year-old university student, is representing himself in court and has denied the charges against him.

During the incident, he was heard saying, “I threw eggs at him because that’s what he deserved.

It’s the only justice the victims of colonialization will ever get.” When questioned by police, he refused to comment.

The court heard that Thelwell was handcuffed and arrested by officers, and a sixth unbroken egg was later found in his pocket.

PC Adam Steventon, who arrested Thelwell, said he put his hand over the protester’s mouth to silence him as families were close by and upset by what he was saying.

He also reported that there was a lot of anger among the crowd, with one gentleman saying, “you’ve ruined this for everybody.”

In conclusion, the incident involving Thelwell’s egg-throwing and obscenity-shouting at King Charles during a walkabout in York last November has resulted in his arrest and charge with a public order offense.

The case is currently being heard in York Magistrates Court.
