Proteas gain momentum ahead of the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup

The Proteas women are gaining momentum in the lead-up to the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, with the global tournament ready to take center stage on Friday.

Before the historic event, Proteas women’s all-rounder Chloe Tryon expressed her delight and vowed that the team will do everything possible to make the country proud.

“The World Cup begins in a few days. This circumstance is uncommon. I believe it encourages us daily,” stated Tryon.

“We see on social media how thrilled everyone is and how many people around the nation want to support us. It is thrilling. It has not yet sunk in. We have all sat together and labored really diligently as a group. We want to make South Africa proud, as well as ourselves and our families.

Following a successful tri-series against India and the West Indies, which was recently conducted in East London, coach Hilton Moreeng and his team will hope to end their World Cup preparations with a victory against Pakistan in Paarl on Wednesday afternoon.

South Africa hosted the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Benoni and Potchefstroom last month, with India being the first team to ever win the tournament.

When they take on Sri Lanka at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town, the senior team will be hoping for a successful campaign on home soil.
