Prince Harry and Meghan Markle joined Prince William and Kate Middleton on a stroll around Windsor Castle on Saturday to witness tributes to Queen Elizabeth II.

Thursday, at the age of 96, the Queen died at her Scottish residence Balmoral, bringing an end to her long reign. William, Kate, Harry, and Meghan appeared in all-black attire to observe flower tributes to the late king and welcome spectators.

Security did not expect all four royals to walk around the property, sources said People, adding that William believed the walk would be a vital demonstration of togetherness. Entertainment William reportedly reached out to Harry an hour before their stroll and requested that he and Meghan join them.

ET reports that both couples are now residing at Windsor Castle. Since the Queen’s passing earlier this week, this is the first time the couples have been seen together in public.

The Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

William published his first statement on the passing of his grandma earlier in the day on the Instagram account he shares with Kate. Even as he mourns his “Grannie,” the royal expressed his “extreme gratitude” in a letter.

William wrote, “I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of living without Grannie sinks in.” “I appreciate her generosity toward my family and me. And I applaud her on behalf of my generation for giving a model of service and dignity in public life that was from a different age, but is still applicable to us all now.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also paid their respects by writing “In Loving Memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II” on the official Archwell statement.

Since Meghan’s marriage into the royal family in 2018, the relationship between the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has been the subject of extensive media coverage. Following Harry and Meghan’s “step back” from royal life in January 2020 and their dramatic interview with Oprah Winfrey the following year, Mikhaila Friel of Insider stated that the couple’s relationship with Harry’s royal relatives appeared to remain strained.

In April 2021, the brothers were pictured conversing for the first time since the interview at Prince Philip’s funeral.
