President Ramaphosa holds bilateral discussions at the G20 summit

This week, President Cyril Ramaphosa finished his attendance at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Bali, Indonesia.
Dr. Naledi Pandor, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, and Enoch Godongwana, Minister of Finance, joined him.
Twenty of the world’s biggest economies convened at the summit to tackle the issues currently ailing the global economy.
According to the Presidency, President Ramaphosa held bilateral conversations with a number of nations during the summit.
“On Tuesday, President Ramaphosa conducted a bilateral meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency President Xi Jinping, during which the two leaders reaffirmed the special strategic cooperation between their respective nations. According to a statement released by the White House, the two countries have agreed to further their budding partnership through increasing Chinese investment in infrastructure and bilateral commerce.
Climate change, the BRICS group of countries, and support for the African Union to become a permanent member of the G20 were also considered.
“The Leaders affirmed a collective position about the use of multilateral institutions to address global concerns. President Ramaphosa hailed President Xi’s support for South Africa to assume the BRICS chair in 2023, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
“The two presidents voiced support and agreement for a permanent African Union membership in the G20. China and South Africa agree to seek commitments from wealthy economies to implement their Paris COP21 climate agreements. The two countries have agreed to more ambitious climate action goals, according to the statement.
President Ramaphosa and the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, held a bilateral meeting on Thursday.
“President Ramaphosa applauded the Netherlands’ assistance for the South Africa Just Energy Transition Investment Plan” (SA JET-IP). The President further emphasized that for the strategy to be realized, South Africa will request an increase in SA JET-IP grant financing.
“South Africa and the Netherlands share an extensive and diverse historical partnership that remains strategic to this day. “President Cyril Ramaphosa and Prime Minister Mark Rutte have agreed to continue conversations regarding the Netherlands’ upcoming working visit to South Africa,” stated the Presidency.
President Ramaphosa also met with Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, during which the two nations’ commercial connections were discussed.
“South Africa’s excellent relations with Singapore are centered on trade and investment promotion, as well as partnership in science and innovation, skills development, vocational training, port innovation, and infrastructure development,” according to the statement.
