President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences and concern at the death of 22 teenagers at a tavern in Scenery Park, East London, in the early hours of Sunday

The killing of 22 youths at a bar in East London’s Scenery Park early on Sunday has drawn sympathy and worry from President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The Presidency issued a statement saying that while the President is awaiting more details about the tragedy, his thoughts are with the families of the children who have been lost as well as those who are awaiting word on how their children may have been impacted.

The Presidency stated that the President is worried about the reported circumstances surrounding the gathering of such young individuals at a location that, on the surface, should not be accessible to anyone under the age of 18.

The President anticipates that after the tragedy is investigated, the law will follow its natural course.

President Ramaphosa remarked, “This tragedy is rendered even more grave by its occurring during Youth Month – a time when we celebrate young people and advocate and advance chances for improved socio-economic conditions for the youth of our nation.”
