According to police and airport sources, cops shot and killed a man brandishing a knife at the Charles de Gaulle airport outside of Paris on Wednesday.
This morning, officers were sent to a situation near the 2F terminal of the airport.
The knifeman apparently displayed “signs of aggression,” disobeyed police commands, and fled in the direction of officers, according to the French radio station RTL.
RTL said that a police officer opened fire on the knifeman, who was then treated by emergency personnel. He was taken from the site, but his injuries proved fatal.
‘This morning officers neutralised a threatening individual in possession of a knife at the Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport,’ the Paris police department said on Twitter.
According to an airport source, the incident happened at the crowded Terminal 2F at about 8:20 a.m. (0620 GMT), when a homeless guy began to annoy security personnel and border patrol was summoned to remove him.
The man first fled while hurling profanities, but he soon returned with a knife and was shot by one of the cops.
A photographer for the AFP news agency who observed the incident said that he saw a huge individual brandishing what seemed to be a knife at the cops. ‘He was ordered to stop but kept advancing toward them, and an officer fired a single shot,’ he said.
The victim was swiftly placed on a stretcher and transported, according to the photographer.
Since a surge of jihadist assassinations that has resulted in the deaths of over 250 people since 2015, largely at the hands of so-called ‘lone wolves’ who often target law enforcement, security authorities have been on high alert for terrorist strikes.
