Police investigate tragic flat fire after 43-year-old man dies

This morning’s early-morning apartment fire in Wallsend, North Tyneside, resulted in the death of a man.

Tragically, a 43-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency personnel responded to Northumberland Street soon after 12:30 a.m. to combat the fire.

Today, forensics was photographed on the street of Tyneside flats, which are one-story apartments in two-story terraced houses.

Northumbria Police have stated that an investigation into the man’s death is underway.

A representative for Northumbria Police stated, “Just before 1:30 a.m. this morning, police were alerted by the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, who were battling a fire at a residence on Northumberland Street in Wallsend.”

Officers and emergency personnel responded to the location, where a 43-year-old man was declared dead. An investigation has been begun into the circumstances surrounding his death.

“Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the police through the Tell us Something page on our website or by dialing 101 and using the case number NP-20221022-0078.”

One resident of the area, who did not wish to be identified, told ChronicleLive: “Around midnight or one o’clock in the morning, fire engines filled the street. I believe there was a fire.” Later, an ambulance arrived, and I suppose it took someone to the hospital.

A representative for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue stated, “At 12:41 am, our Fire Control got a report of a domestic fire on Northumberland Street in Wallsend.”

They promptly dispatched apparatus to the area, and the first firefighters arrived within four minutes to find a home on fire on the bottom level.

‘In total, three fire engines responded to the blaze, and two people were rescued by firemen and left in the hands of the ambulance service.

Our fire investigators are currently collaborating with Northumbria Police to determine the cause of the incident, and a cordon remains in place.
