Police investigate ‘surprise’ death of 40-year-old man discovered in the Thames


This afternoon, a man’s corpse was discovered in the River Thames, and police began an inquiry into his ‘unexpected’ demise.

At Chichester Wharf in Erith, police pulled a man’s corpse thought to be in his 40s from the sea.

Although the individual has not yet been recognised, police are attempting to do so and let his family know.

After learning that there was a corpse in the Thames, police and emergency personnel arrived at the location.

Police were summoned to allegations of a corpse in the water at Chichester Wharf in Erith at 16:53 on Sunday, August 28, according to a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman.

“A man’s corpse that was thought to be in his 40s was discovered.”

Police are seeking to identify him and notify his family.

‘At this time, the death is being viewed as unexpected. Investigations continue.
