Police in Mpumalanga seize a phony pharmacist

Police in Mpumalanga have issued a warning about purchasing medication from unauthorized individuals.

During an intelligence-driven operation on Thursday, a fraudulent pharmacist was detained on suspicion of illegally distributing schedule 6 drugs to the general public in Middleburg.

Provincial South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesman, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, stated, “According to the report, information about a suspect (24) illegally selling various medications to individuals was brought to the knowledge of the members by the provincial police Intelligence structure. The plan was then to execute the procedure today.”

After police got a search warrant, he explained, resources were mobilized.

“Police officers operationalized the aforementioned information and traveled to selected Middleburg locations. Upon arrival, the suspect was located, and a check of the premises led to the discovery of approximately R7000 worth of medication.

“The suspect was subsequently detained and charged with illegal possession of schedule 6 drugs,” The police’s preliminary investigation has since discovered that the suspect is an employee at a local nutrition store. “As the investigation proceeds, the man may face additional charges,” Mohlala said. “Police are collaborating with other key health sector partners, and he may face other charges.”

The suspect is anticipated to shortly appear in court in Middelburg.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, welcomed and urged the public to help demolish the underground market of unauthorised distribution of medical health items by not purchasing the medication.

“We would like to caution the public against taking unnecessary risks with their health, including getting medical treatment or medications from dubious individuals.
“Ignorance can put a person’s life in jeopardy, and members of the public should utilize public health facilities or legitimate private health facilities as opposed to taking a shortcut that can be harmful to their health.” “He issued a warning. – SAnews.gov.za
