Pharmacist sues a karate dojo for banning her because of an affair with a younger instructor

A New York pharmacist alleges she was the victim of sex discrimination when she was allegedly excluded from a Long Island karate club due to an affair she had with one of their instructors.

Kristin Fabbio-Hamelburg, a wife and mother of two boys, said her husband has forgiven her for the tryst, but the owner of the karate club has not, according to a complaint acquired by the New York Daily News from the state Division of Human Rights.

Long Island’s Rockville Centre Tiger Schulmann karate center is where Fabbio-Hamelburg obtained her training certificate, according to the Daily News.

But the owner, Jobin George, barred her from the center, and his attorney, Aaron Kleinmann, stated that it was not jealousy or religious zeal that led to the exclusion, but rather her husband’s threats and frequent visits.

Following the affair, Fabbio-training Hamelburg’s certificate from the Rockville Centre Tiger Schulmann karate center on Long Island was revoked.

According to the complaint filed with the Division of Human Rights, George stated that they did not want her back in order to protect the health and safety of the gym’s dedicated employees and pupils.

The complaint contains emails between George and Fabbio-Hamelburg that demonstrate his discomfort with the couple’s home troubles.

George wrote to Kristin Fabbio-Hamelburg, “A jealous husband can do crazy things, and your presence makes everyone uncomfortable because your husband is a threat.”

Other emails create a picture of a betrayed spouse complaining about Fabbio-Hamelburg and asserting he posed no threat to the karate center.

The relationship between Fabbio-Hamelburg and the karate instructor began in 2019 when she enrolled in a special Mother’s Day session at the center.

Her husband Daniel Hamelburg sent an email to the karate center’s owner stating that he was not a threat.

“I am NOT a danger to your school.” I recognize the appearance,’ Daniel Hamelburg remarked in an email.

You only see the cheated-on, beaten-down spouse I have become over the past two years, which have been a living nightmare for me.

He did acknowledge that he raised his voice in the center.

“To show you more of who I am, we sat down in his office like gentlemen and I apologized for my first visit,” he added. “Kristin has driven me to the breaking point. It’s not fair; not only am I depressed, but so are my children.

The affair between Fabbio-Hamelburg and the karate instructor began in 2019 when she enrolled in a special Mother’s Day session at the center.

Fabbio-Hamelburg told the Daily News: “My oldest son began training there, and then there was a Mother’s Day class, so I attended because my son asked me to.” I never thought that punching something could be so pleasurable.

In 2021, she obtained her karate instructor certification and began instructing lessons.

She stated, “It was my outlet, my stress relief, for two and a half years until Jobin decided arbitrarily to fire me.”

Fabbio-Hamelburg did acknowledge to the affair, with occasional meetings at the training facility.

She stated, “We messed around a bit inside the school on roughly two occasions, one of which Jobin claimed to have video of, but he was never able to produce it.”

She said that the owner eventually revoked her certification but did not discipline the unnamed instructor with whom she had an affair.

Fabbio-Hamelburg noted that she is negotiating with her spouse in order to train and instruct at other Tiger Schulmann sites.
