RANDLE GENERAL HOSPITAL ORGANISES A SENSITISATION PROGRAMME FOR STUDENTS ON DRUG ABUSE TO COMMEMORATE 2022 WORLD PHARMACIST DAY

As part of the events commemorating World Pharmacist Day in 2022, Randle General Hospital, Surulere, organised a programme to educate the children of Onitolo Senior and Junior Community High School, Surulere, about the significance of the Day and the value of the Pharmacy Profession.

Pharmacist Olubunmi Talabi, head of the hospital’s pharmacy department and leader of the sensitisation team, addressed the students during the enlightenment session and informed them that the World Pharmacist Day celebration aims to promote and advocate the roles of pharmacists in improving global health.

She said that this year’s theme, “Pharmacy United in Action for a Healthier World,” is a clarion call for all practising Pharmacists throughout the world to join in action for a healthier world.

Also addressing the students, Pharmacist Adenike Mayungbe described the many fields of pharmacy and employment opportunities for certified pharmacists.

Mayungbe added that the enlightenment session with the students was crucial for guiding them appropriately on their career path, especially for those students interested in pursuing a career in pharmacy, so that they could learn the correct subject combination and number of years of study, among others.

Pharm. Uche Nwayalani, who addressed the students on “Drug Misuse and Drug Abuse,” outlined the distinctions between the two and urged them never to partake in drug abuse.

Pharmacist Adewunmi Ogunbowale educated the students on ‘Hand Hygiene’ with a demonstration of proper hand-washing techniques and the necessity for the pupils to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In his reaction, the representative of the school’s principal, Mr. Stephen Owolabi, praised and thanked the team of pharmacists from Randle General Hospital, Surulere for their informative lectures.

The highlight of the advocacy campaign was the delivery of Hand-Washing Liquid made by the Hospital’s Pharmacy team to the School’s students and staff.

Similarly, as part of the festivities commemorating Pharmacist Day, a talk on “Medication Safety” was presented to the personnel of Randle General Hospital.

In their presentation, Pharmacists Abiola Anifalaje and Mariam Alli discussed the significance of pharmaceutical safety and its impact on patients and healthcare professionals. Medication Safety Health Talks were also given to patients at Randle and MCC, Gbaja.
