Police claim daughter lived with mom’s corpse for a year


Authorities said a woman’s corpse was found by police in the San Francisco Bay Area in the living room of the house she lived with her daughter. The daughter informed detectives that her mother had passed away naturally more than a year before.

According to a statement from the Petaluma Police Department, the women’s neighbours reported seeing 20 to 30 parcels heaped on the porch of the residence and receiving no answer when they knocked on the door. They then phoned the police.

Officers decided to break into the residence after making their observations and using the information the reporting party had provided to be worried for the resident’s wellbeing, according to the police.

According to the agency, when officers discovered the corpse, it seemed to be well along in the process of decomposing.

In a bedroom, they also discovered the deceased woman’s daughter, who informed them that the corpse belonged to her mother, who had passed away naturally in April 2021, according to the police.

The adult female who had been reached inside the home was taken to a local hospital for a medical checkup and treatment, according to the department.

Police described the death in their news release as “strange,” but they said that there are no wanted suspects or security issues in the vicinity.

The woman’s corpse was taken into custody by the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office, which will establish the cause of death.

The house was red-tagged by a Petaluma Code Enforcement officer after officials declared it uninhabitable.

According to the Press Democrat, the community is divided into quadrants of homes facing each other and sharing a driveway. It is a calm suburban area with clipped hedges and people strolling their dogs.

Three of the dead woman’s neighbours in her neighborhood’s sector opted not to speak with a Press Democrat reporter.

One lady, who wished to remain anonymous, said she had been preoccupied with caring for her sick husband and hadn’t seen anything odd going on next door.

Nearby resident Jeff Maddux, 62, said he didn’t see or know who lived there but did observe the curtains were constantly drawn.

It’s surprising, Maddux added, and serves as a warning to be aware of your surroundings.
