Pitso apologises after ‘unacceptable’ loss kills unbeaten streak

Since taking over at the Saudi club, Pitso Mosimane has led Al-Ahli to a perfect 13-game unbeaten streak, which has propelled them to the top of the standings.

On Thursday, Mosimane’s team not only lost 4-1 against Al Akhdood, but also saw the victorious team jump them into first place in the standings.

In spite of the fact that Al-Ahli scored the game’s first goal, they surrendered four goals as the game swiftly degenerated.

After the game, Pitso stated on social media that it simply wasn’t good enough. The setback dropped Al Ahli to third place based on goal differential, but they will have a chance to reverse their fortunes next Tuesday when they face Al Kholood.

Mosimane stated last year that accepting the Saudi offer with a second-division squad was a bit of a risk, but that he was eager to continue “breaking barriers” and stepping beyond of his “comfort zone”.

He also challenged other South African coaches seeking coaching positions to enhance their work ethic.

“Sometimes I tell people, ‘I’ve gone to a country and I know the President of the Federation; do you want to go?’ They inquire, “How much do they pay?” I cannot leave my family for that,’ Mosimane was quoted as saying by SoccerLaduma.

“I’m abandoning my family, my children, and my son is growing up. Somewhere, somehow, this mentality prevails. We also desire a comfortable lifestyle as coaches. You cannot state that you are unemployed, yet you are not a coach, and we need coaches.”
