Patrice Evra will be judged for homophobic remarks

Paris — AFP sources reported on Thursday that former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra would be judged by a minor court in Paris next week for uttering homophobic comments in 2019.

Evra, 41, who retired from playing three years ago and earned 81 caps for France, was charged by two organizations with “publicly insulting a group of persons on the basis of their sexual orientation.”

In March 2019, after Manchester United’s Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain, Patrice Evra spoke on social media about the French club.

“Paris, you are gays… Here, only guys are audible “Evra said.

In May, an investigating judge stated that Evra had engaged in “private conversation for the making of a Snapchat video.”

Evra, who is not required to attend the verdict on Monday in person, might be fined €1,500. (about R27000).
