Paddling on a London river, a family discovers abandoned firearms

A family was astonished to discover a sizable stash of abandoned guns while out for a stroll in a London river.

Yesterday, James White, 15, and some family friends decided to go swimming since it was so hot when they were out fishing for the day at the river walk in Catford.

James slid in the water and landed on what turned out to be a rifle magazine.

He told MyLondon he first thought it was “just a terrible dream,” but after seeing a cone-shaped object in the water, he became concerned it may be an explosive.

They started looking around in the water and discovered around 11 firearms, including a revolver and an Uzi submachine pistol, as well as ammo and bullet magazines.

“We were at River View Walk, where we often take our kids, when my boys were playing with James, 15, when he slid on what looked like a magazine from a rifle,” said Ryan Ball, 32.

He then began looking about in the water, and he then began to bring out each item you can see in the images one at a time.

“I immediately called the police, who arrived and collected the firearms and will be searching the river for any more,” the speaker said.

In south-east London, the river view walk is a riverfront park featuring a well-liked walking and cycling path between Catford and Beckenham.

Yesterday about 4:40 p.m., police were summoned to the river due to allegations of guns in the water.

‘Be cautious letting your kids play on the River View walk behind Sainsbury’s in Catford,’ James Wight’s sister Emelie Wight said on Facebook.

When my brother stumbled on something while there with a buddy and his child, he took out a pistol and discovered several more.

“Police were notified, and they are sweeping the water,”

When letting your kids play in the river, please use caution.

‘Police were summoned to Winsford Road, SE6, around 4.40 pm on Saturday, August 6 due to reports of guns discovered in a river,’ said Callum Jones, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police. Officers were present.

A gun and ammo were found and taken away from the site.
