Orlando Pirates invites UJ Varsity Cup goalkeeper Alan Mabuza to a club trial.

According to reports, Orlando Pirates have invited University of Johannesburg (UJ) Varsity Cup goalkeeper Alan Mabuza to a club trial.

Mabuza has been a star for UJ in the current Varsity Cup football competition, where he appears to have attracted Pirates’ notice.

According to a source who spoke with The Citizen, Mabuza will be evaluated by the Pirates, where he intends to leave a lasting impression.

Pirates invite the participant for evaluations

“Orlando Pirates called him for an evaluation, and it’s hoped he does well because it may be his big break into professional football.

He is a good keeper and a bright young man, and I think the Pirates will sign him after giving him a closer look.

Even if Pirates do not sign him, I believe Mabuza will land a professional deal somewhere else since he has the ability to be a great keeper in local football, the insider predicted.

The source then listed two more teams that are after Mabuza that are more skilled than Pirates.

More clubs are considering Mabuza

“Free State Stars have expressed interest in Alan as well, although they may have to wait to sign him until after the outcome of his trial at Pirates.

I’ve heard that (Platinum) Rovers have also expressed interest and are waiting in the wings, but Pirates will undoubtedly be given preference because they are a sizable team and compete in the premier league, where every player aspires to play.

Richard Ofori, a former Maritzburg United goalie who presently plays for Ghana, is Pirates’ first-choice keeper.

Yesterday, the club officially named Ofori vice-captain. Siyabonga Mpontshane, who successfully filled in for Ofori last season, was also given a new contract in appreciation for his work.

Beyond those two, there are other younger keepers competing for a spot with the Bucs, such Kopano Thuntsane.

If Mabuza puts his best foot forward during the trials, he might find himself in the mix.
