Orlando Pirates among first teams on display when the MTN 8 2022/23 season kicks off in late August

The Buccaneers qualified for the competition for the seventh year in a row after placing sixth in the DStv Premiership rankings, and will face third-place Royal AM in the quarter-finals on Saturday, August 27.

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) released the list of matches on Wednesday afternoon, with stadiums and kick-off timings confirmed, with the two teams scheduled to square off in the second Last Eight encounter, one of two games slated to begin on the tournament’s opening day. On Saturday, the action will begin at Chatsworth Stadium.

It will be the first cup match between the Soweto Giants and Thwihli Thwahla, and the fourth overall, with the two teams slated to play ten days before in a midweek League fixture at the same site.

Both previous meetings ended in stalemates, with Linda Mntambo canceling out a Levy Mashiane opener in a 1-1 tie at Orlando Stadium before playing to a two-all draw in Durban, with Deon Hotto and Kwame Peprah scoring for the Buccaneers.

The Pirates will be looking for their 11th Top-Eight championship, their second in the previous three seasons, after hoisting the trophy in December 2020.
