More than half an hour after responding to a domestic disturbance in the Bronx on Saturday, police discovered the remains of a toddler and infant hiding in a running bathtub behind heaps of clothing.
The 3-year-old and 11-month-old boys were discovered by their father at 8 p.m. with “several stab wounds” to the neck and chest inside a homeless shelter at 246 Echo Place in Mount Hope, according to police.
According to police and sources, a 911 call received at 7:21 p.m. was most likely triggered by a carbon monoxide alarm in an apartment on the third level.
Police discovered the 22-year-old mother of the boys nude and “acting erratically” in the flat, which was filled with toxic gas after she set fire to items in the kitchen, according to police and sources.
Louis Deceglie, deputy chief of the NYPD, spoke at the scene.

The unnamed woman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital after officials shut off the flowing water in the bathtub. According to authorities, they were unaware that the murdered children were concealed behind the mound of clothing in the bathtub.
A police source stated, “There was nothing clear to imply there were deceased children inside.” There was no blood found.
A family member informed authorities that the woman’s children were with their father before she departed for the hospital, police said.
Police discovered the mother of the boys, age 22, nude and “acting erratically” in the flat.

The guy, who was on the fourth floor of the building when police were contacted, made the terrible find around 35 minutes later, prompting neighbors to phone 911 a second time at 7:57 p.m., according to officials.
Police stated that the boys’ mother was a person of interest in the terrible double murder. She has not been charged as of Sunday morning.
Shannon Holyfield, a neighbor, witnessed the father of the boys screaming and covering the two nude, bloody boys with his shirt. She characterized the sight as horrifying and painful.
Holyfield stated, “He was yelling frantically.” “He was yelling, ‘Help!’” And when I opened my door, I saw him walking down the corridor with the two children in his arms.
“They had died. They had died. “Blood was everywhere and coated them,” she continued.
“They are infants. The guys were not deserving of that.”
Holyfield stated that the parents of the deceased children had fought earlier in the day.
Police stated that the boys’ mother was a person of interest in the terrible double murder.

A neighbor who lives on the fourth floor of the complex told The Post that he assisted the father in pulling the children out of the tub when he saw them, and that first responders and shelter employees originally “walked past” the injured youngsters.
The neighbor added, “I attempted to give the infant some air, but it was too much.”
“It’s really sad,” he remarked.
“I instructed his father to place him on the bed. I attempted to provide CPR to the oldest, but it was ineffective.”
Most likely, a carbon monoxide alarm in the third-floor apartment caused the 911 call.

Additional efforts to save the lives of the little, unnamed victims were fruitless. According to police, the medical examiner would establish the cause of death.
