Novak Djokovic wins Australian Open, equals Rafael Nadal with 22 majors

MELBOURNE, Australia — Sunday evening at Rod Laver Arena, Novak Djokovic defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) to win his 10th Australian Open championship and 22nd Grand Slam title overall. Djokovic was simply too good in the most crucial moments, claiming his 10th Australian Open title and 22nd Grand Slam title overall.

This victory returns Djokovic to the top of the ATP standings.

The 35-year-old tennis player from Serbia did not compete in the Australian Open a year ago after being deported from the country for lack of COVID-19 vaccination.

Government regulations have subsequently been loosened, and he was able to obtain a visa this time despite not having received the coronavirus vaccination.

Djokovic has now won 28 consecutive matches at the hard-court competition.

His tenth trophy in Australia extends the record he previously held. His 22 major titles, which include seven from Wimbledon, three from the U.S. Open, and two from the French Open, are tied for the most in tennis history with Rafael Nadal’s.

Tsitsipas is now winless in two major finals. He also fell to Djokovic at the French Open in 2021.
